Background pictures

Thanks to the brilliant work of Twitter user @golton, you can now play CM 89/90 with a set of background images from the era. Gaz has worked on the top two four divisions of English football, with the promise of more to come.

This is a huge enhancement to CM 89/90, and something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but wouldn’t know where to start. Gaz has made the files available for download here. To install, extract the files to the Pictures folder in your CM 01/02 installation (you will need to download WinRAR to open the file).

To get a taster, here’s a set of screenshots from the second season of a campaign I’m currently playing.

Update: This now includes all four divisions of the English League

The Scarborough campaign

A new beta will posted soon, but meanwhile I’ve decided to actually play the patch. I’m playing with the English, German, Dutch, Italian, Australian and US leagues, and a randomly chosen team: Scarborough.

Follow me on Twitter for regular screenshots and commentary.

New Beta available

A fourth Beta is now available, just in time for Easter. This includes a number of enhancements, particularly:

  • All 92 English League clubs have been enhanced, including:
    • Board members (all clubs now have at least one board member)
    • Backroom staff (all clubs now have coaches and physios)
    • More youth and reserve players (at least 500 more players in total)
    • Accurate away kits
    • Accurate stadium capacities
    • Accurate attendances
    • More accurate player positions and attributes
    • More complete player histories (still WIP)
  • The MLS is now playable (see the MLS page for how)
  • Italian Serie C2 is now playable
  • Various other clubs have been updated – see completed teams for more details

Beta 3 now available

A third Beta is now available for download. The French league is now playable, with over 60 teams completed, and the Italian Serie C1 is now complete. There are a large number of gradual enhancements too, with many squads and players boosted. I’ve particularly focused on Polish teams, too, as this was one area I hadn’t made much progress, and I’ve noticed a large number of visitors from there. See the completed teams page for more details.

There is also now an FAQs page, as well as improved installation instructions. As always, please get in contact if you have any feedback.

As usual, here are a selection of screenshots.

Feedback wanted

Well, to my surprise, it seems like CM 89/90 has blown up a bit over the Christmas break. Thanks to everyone who helped to make that happen, and to everyone who’s downloaded the patch. I hope you’re enjoying it so far – if so, please do send screenshots, either in the comments section or to me on Twitter – @simontreanor.

I’d also like to ask your help with improving the patch – by providing information that’s missing, or could be improved, or helping point me in the way of resources that will help me find information about the era.

If you’d like to help, contact me on Twitter or via the contact page.

Meanwhile, here’s a few more screenshots, this time of early-season matches.

A Christmas gift! Beta 2

So, I haven’t been updating this blog much lately, but I have been updating the data, and, just in time for Christmas, I have a new Beta for you, downloadable from Sendspace. There are a lot of improvements, particularly with regard to national teams and teams in Europe. Italian football is much more complete, too – see the completed teams page for more details.

This is still very much a work in progress, so any feedback is very welcome. You can contact me in the comments, by using the form on the left, or by emailing simon.treanor@btinternet.com.

Here are some screenshots showing players from an earlier era, at the end of their careers:
